 Breaking: INEC Confirms, Acknowledges Dino Melaye Recall Petition In a press statement dated June 22, the electoral body announced that it would begin the process of recalling Mr. Melaye after verifying that the petitioners are registered to vote in Kogi West Senatorial District. Dino Melaye The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirmed on Thursday that it received the petition signed by Kogi West voters demanding the recall of their senator, Dino Melaye. In a press statement dated June 22, the electoral body announced that it would begin the process of recalling Mr. Melaye after verifying that the petitioners are registered to vote in Kogi West Senatorial District.  The verification exercise will hold on July 3, 2017.  INEC stated that it has informed Mr. Melaye and the petitioners' representatives of its receipt of the petition. The NAPTIP Head of Press and Public Relations, Josiah Emerole, said in a statement on Wednesday in  Abuja  that the operatives of the agency in Benin Zonal Command arrested the suspect in an early morning operation on Tuesday. Emerole explained that Omorogie, a nurse by profession and an indigene of Oredo Local Government Area of Edo, was nabbed by the operatives at about 5 a.m. at her residence located at No. 65 Osayande St. off Upper Sakponda Road, Benin City. The law provides for death penalty for kidnappers whose victims die in their custody, and life imprisonment for the act of kidnapping. The  News  Agency of Nigeria reports that the Lagos State  House  of Assembly passed the bill on January 5. The governor said that the law was enacted to address key issues bordering on security, adding that kidnapping had become a major threat to the safety of residents and, therefore, required decisive action by the government. “This law imposes a penalty of life imprisonment for kidnapping for ransom. “The law stipulates that, where a victim dies in the course of kidnapping, the suspect
