His last visit was early this month for what was described as a “routine medical check-up”. “There is the issue that the president is going. I am not going. That the president is dying. I am not dying,” Mugabe told thousands of supporters at a rally in his home town of Chinhoyi. His remarks came after his wife Grace urged him to name a successor in a bid to end the factionalism threatening to tear apart his ruling ZANU-PF party. “I thank God for having lived to this day. I thank God for the good life. I have an ailment here and there (but) my organs… my hea

I come from a humble background and I struggled a lot while growing up. My parents weren’t well-to-do so I had to hustle to download whatever I wanted by myself. We were basically living from hand to mouth and our situation was quite pathetic. However, despite our lack, I still considered education as a priority and I always had

Good News! New Hope For HIV Cure As… ➽ POSTED BY: AYOPOPULA A South African boy, believed to have been infected with HIV around the time of his birth, has remained free of the virus for 8½ years after early treatment — renewing hope among scientists that such outliers may hold clues to help end the decades-old epidemic. The case study, described by researchers before a presentation Monday at an international AIDS conference in Paris, suggests a paradigm shift in the treatment of those infected. It establishes that HIV may be controllable in some way other than a daily and lifelong regimen of antiretroviral drugs. “This is really the first step toward HIV remission and a cure,” said Deborah Persaud, a virologist at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore. “Understanding the factors that came into play to lead to this outcome is really going to inform science.” Out of the millions of children worldwide who are HIV-positive, the boy, now 9, is one of only thre

Edo State University Not For The Poor – VC The Management of the state-owned Edo University, Iyamho,(EUI) says the institution was established to essentially cater for academically-endowed students and the wealthy in the society. The Vice Chancellor(VC) of the institution, Prof. Emmanuel Aluyor, disclosed this in an interview with Newsmen on Monday, in Iyamho-Uzairue, in the Estako-West local government area of Edo. He said: “the idea behind the establishment of Edo University by the founding fathers is neither to replace nor compete with the existing Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma. “But rather, to complement it in terms of providing world-class education with the best of infrastructure to academically-gifted students and the rich, who can afford the fees. “People have questioned why former Gov. Adams Oshiomhole did not upgrade AAU, than establishing a new university altogether. “Apart from its being capital-intensive to either renovate or bring in the nee
Senate Finally Passes Peace Corps Bill   The Senate on Tuesday finally passed a bill to make the Nigerian Peace Corps a para- military agency.   The Senate adopted the conference report on the bill to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps, after it was so advised by its committee on judiciary, human rights and legal matters. Both the Senate and the House of Representatives had separately passed the bill last year.   However, after the harmonisation of the two separate bills, the Senate had rejected the harmonised version, which has now been approved.   The bill will be sent to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent after the House also approves the harmonised version.   It is not clear if the presidency will approve of the bill as several departments in the executive including the police and the military are opposed to the legalisation of the Peace Corps which is currently a private NGO.
