It has been revealed that two weeks after sitting for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, some candidates are yet to know their results.

These candidates have expressed worries.

According to Punch Metro, some of the candidates who spoke with from different parts of the country on Monday claimed to have written the examination 14 days ago and had been checking the results online without success.

One of the candidates, who said she sat for the examination in the Oremeji area of Lagos State, urged the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board to release her result.

The candidate, who does not want to be identified, said, “I am now worried because there was no incident on that day and my friends who sat for the same examination already have their results. I have been checking since Thursday last week and what comes out is, ‘You do not have any result yet’. I am worried because no school will offer me admission without my UTME score.’’

Also, a candidate, who sat for the examination at the Kemade Highflyers Academy, Ile-Ife, Osun State, said  it had been a traumatic experience for her having to wait when many others had seen their results.

“This is actually my second time of attempting the UTME. I was 15 years old last year and my score was 220, but I could not gain admission because of my age. I am having my pre-degree programme right now at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and I need this result for admission. I am frustrated and I want to appeal to JAMB to release my result,’’ she said.

Similarly, another candidate who sat for the examination in Esa Oke, Osun State, said it was unfair for his result to be withheld by JAMB.

He said, “I thought I was the only one affected until I saw some of my friends in town complaining about the same thing. I don’t know why the result has not been released and JAMB is saying that all results have been released. They should just tell us what is going on.”

However, the Registrar, JAMB, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, in a text message to our correspondent, hinted that there might be more to the unreleased results.

“ After investigation, we shall release (results) for the innocent and punish the guilty,’’ he said.

Senate Finally Passes Peace Corps Bill   The Senate on Tuesday finally passed a bill to make the Nigerian Peace Corps a para- military agency.   The Senate adopted the conference report on the bill to establish the Nigerian Peace Corps, after it was so advised by its committee on judiciary, human rights and legal matters. Both the Senate and the House of Representatives had separately passed the bill last year.   However, after the harmonisation of the two separate bills, the Senate had rejected the harmonised version, which has now been approved.   The bill will be sent to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent after the House also approves the harmonised version.   It is not clear if the presidency will approve of the bill as several departments in the executive including the police and the military are opposed to the legalisation of the Peace Corps which is currently a private NGO.
